Our inaugural collection of décor, furniture and lifestyle items is inspired by two materials that are integral to Africa’s history: COAL + CLAY.

Whilst the continent’s abundance of shinier minerals – such as gold and copper – may be more familiar, the understated presence of coal and clay is certainly more elemental. Homes made of mud. Utilitarian earthen- and stoneware. Wood as a source of energy and heat. Coal and clay are our everyday companions.

Their contrasting textures and colours make for a juxtaposed design aesthetic that has very much informed this collection.

COAL + CLAY is a combination of designed and curated pieces assembled by Jean-Pierre de la Chaumette, in collaboration with talented designers and artisans from Southern Africa, such as Andrew Dominic, Heidi Gouws, Vorster & Braye, Mpho Vackier, Wessel Snyman and Ryjaan Abrahams. A modern, simple sensibility has been produced through complex, time-honed handcraft.

The collection includes side tables, stools, bowls, trays, bags and picture frames. Natural materials are used throughout: earthenware, stoneware, oak, brass, cork, kiaat and leather. Colours shift from hues of terracotta, nudes and champagnes, to charcoal and black. See + feel.
